~ Planning for Wedding Boutonnieres 101 ~

There are so many different flowers, colors, and styles of boutonnieres out there; how do you find the right design for your event?. Sarah White, owner of Fox Glove Flowers, recommends starting with the brides bouquet first in order to set the general floral theme of your event. Next, move on to boutonnieres and then finally end with designing your displays.

Today we are going to share with you a simple guide to help you with the initial stages of planning your boutonnieres.

First, you will want to decide on your quantities. Otherwise, how many boutonnieres will you need? Some couples choose to supply every guest with a boutonniere, where others provide just for family and close friends. Sarah recommends creating a list of names ahead of time and giving it to your florist or the person you've set in charge of flowers. This way you are sure to have enough for everyone intended and the task of handing out the boutonnieres can easily be passed on to a helpful friend or party member. One less thing you need to worry about on your big day!

Second, start to think about what flower, color or style boutonniere you would like. Bare in mind the wedding theme, brides bouquet and if the groom has any ideas or suggestions. To help coordinate the event, try using similar elements from the brides bouquet in the groom's boutonniere. For example you could use the same flower, ribbon or decoration such as buttons/bead as in the image below.

Here both the bride and groom have a yellow button heart incorporated.

Once you've decided on the grooms boutonniere, you can design the groomsmen's boutonnieres to compliment it.

The other boutonnieres from the same wedding as above.

Finally, after you have decided on boutonnieres for the groom and male guests you are ready to move on the the female guests. It is customary to provide either wrist corsages or boutonnieres to the mothers of both the bride and groom. Sarah suggests incorporating each mothers favorite flower into their arrangement to personalize it for them or to choose a color that will help tie in their outfit to the event colors.

“Again from the same wedding, but different color to match mothers outfit and using their favorite flower. Tied into the wedding by using same foliage as others and the button theme”
Helpful Tip: When using boutonnieres for the women in your party, substitute magnets for pins on the back. This will allow for less risk of damaging their lightweight clothing.
I hope this short guide will help you get started planning for your events boutonnieres.
Remember to be creative and have fun.
